Hello World! TED-Ed Blog

Dear World,

It’s been a thrilling few months since the launch of both TED-Ed BETA and the TED-Ed YouTube Channel. Today we’re excited to launch a new area of the site: The TED-Ed Blog!

The TED-Ed Blog is intended to be an extension of our video-based lessons that educators and animators, nominated in the get involved section of the site, have helped our small team produce since launch.  To date, across time and geography, our three respective communities have come together to build 75+ original lessons.

The videos featured in the TED-Ed library have been viewed over 10,000,000 times, and using the “Flip This Lesson” functionality on the website, they have served as a centerpiece in thousands of individualized lessons made by members of the TED-Ed community. Because of the nature of TED-Ed originals—audio from educators in one part of the world + visuals from an animator from somewhere else—nearly every Lesson has an incredible story behind it. This blog will tell those stories and more….

What should you expect from the TED-Ed Blog?

1. Expect to see a mixture of behind-the-scenes looks at the creation of “TED-Ed Originals” and “Best Flips” (created by you, using any video on YouTube), profiles on the amazing pairs of people who have built each Lesson, and accounts of creative ways that the TED-Ed website, as a library and a tool, is being used in classrooms around the world.

2. This blog is also meant to increase exposure to remarkable examples of learning and innovation occurring in the education realm at large. So, if you know of a student doing something incredible in his or her community, or an educator (formal or informal) with a knack for guiding learners towards a greater understanding of the world around them, please send us lead on their story….or better yet, nominate them to narrate a TED-Ed Original.

3. This space will be used to announce (and inform) new features deployed monthly on the TED-Ed website.

So, whether you’re a teacher, student, parent, scientist, singer, sibling, engineer, artist, grandparent, musician or none/all of the above, if you’re interested in teaching us how best to serve you’re unique educational needs, we’re interested in learning from you as we continue to develop TED-Ed.

We do hope you’ll follow the TED-Ed Blog by subscribing via RSS, Twitter, Facebook or newsletter.

Sincerely,

The TED-Ed Team

PS: One more thing to expect here, and in all aspects of TED and now TED-Ed: EXPERIMENTATION. Videos, websites, learning applications—they can inspire, engage, and ignite curiosity in individuals and at scale. And as technological infrastructure grows larger and more portable, they can surely be powerful supplements for nearly any learning scenario. But it’s in the experimentation itself that the deepest form of learning happens. That’s the big idea that TED-Ed is striving to model and spread.

Thanks TED-Ed for this great resource! I have used many flipped videos to have students explore concepts outside of school, which has resulted in enriched discussion and more meaningful time spent in class.

The kids Love the animations and, as a result, are able to grasp more complex and abstract concepts at a Grade five level. I have enjoyed sharing this resource with fellow educators and educating them about the usefulness of this resource.

As a TEDxYouth organizer, author, and educator – I appreciate how this resource has helped to improve the education I deliver and my continuing commitment to TED. Thanks again, and I am excited to submit lessons to TED-Ed, hopefully in the near future!

      Jeff,

All of this is so wonderful to know! Thanks for being such a passionate member of the TED-Ed and greater TED community. Our team looks forward to seeing you and your fellow educator’s nominations and flips!
