TED-Ed launches an interactive periodic table with a video for every element

In 1864, Dimitri Mendeleev published the first periodic table that organized all the known elements in the world. This tool was groundbreaking for many reasons–including the fact that Mendeleev planned with incredible foresight, leaving space for any new elements that would be discovered beyond his time.  The history of the periodic table is fascinating, but If you’ve ever taken a chemistry class, you know that memorizing those elements and understanding their properties can be difficult! To help provide a refresher and a study aid of sorts, TED-Ed collaborated with Brady Haran, best known for his YouTube channel Numberphile and his extensive video coverage of the periodic table, to create a clickable periodic table with videos on every element.

CLICK HERE to visit the table and find out fun facts on all your favorite elements, from Hydrogen to Ununennium and beyond.

    Hello fellow chemistry teachers. I would like to congratulate you on this magnificent idea. I am a professor of chemistry in a small town in Brazil and would like to offer myself to translate the videos to Portuguese language so that students from my country also have access to this information.

    My son actually memorized all of it and he is only 7 this year. But without practising he sort like forgot some of it. I would like him to pick up again, thanks for your idea. BTW, he is a Mensa member too.

      Get over “it” Jackie Chin!
      your self adulation stops when you need to reflect your self esteem vs “your CLEVER son! Parrots can learn also…. though and quiet reflection are important virtues.

    Simply amazing.. I studied Chemistry during my graduation and this reminded that time when I was a student, playing with all sorts of chemicals kept neatly in glass bottles…

    Thanks for making this periodic table, great aid for Chemistry students, of any level !!

    Great resource, although is there any way to play the videos without ads? Would love to use this in my science classroom, but the pop-up ads may prevent me from being able to use this.

    Loved the video (first one I’ve watched) on Rubidium, but the sound faded in and out dramatically.

  14. There are some schools in the Atlanta System and
    in metro-counties that are on the year round school schedule;
    and it will vary as to beginning and ending days; as well as holidays.
    When one parent has more lax rules about homework, it’s harder to enforce more firm rules
    in the other’s home. Many people mistake the symptoms of
    a panic attack for a heart attack.
