SUGGESTION - Please consider having a Ted Ed SILVER (not graying) cohort for those of us with a lot of experience yet still innovative! Experience doesn't hold me back from the bleeding edge, I am now on a project bringing KioKits to Solomon Islands - I am creating the train the teacher on the new technology... please consider me!

I am very interested to be part of this program. I have been involved in Education in the last 30 years.
My name is Alma Ayala.
I live in Cuernavaca, Mexico. From november 2014 to end of october 2015, I spent a year at Madison, Wisconsin with my husband. He was a visiting profesor at UW at the Bacteriology Department.
This year I was out of my work as a high school teacher because of the sabbatical.
In Mexico, I have been teaching Biology at the senior high school level during 30 years in a private school called CUAM in Cuernavaca. Cuernavaca is 40 miles south from Mexico City and has a very nice weather (70-80 degrees, all year round).
I used to be a high school principal for nine years (CUAM) and a junior high School principal in the last ten years (CEAM).
During 27 consecutive years I have been organizing a research congress for high school students to foster their interest in learning all subjects through discovery.
I am very excited about sharing your experiences and ways of applying innovative technologies with me.
In my last three years as junior high school principal in CEAM, we started introducing digital learning strategies, and I also started to apply it in my classes.
Living abroad was a great experience for me, because not only the weather, but many things were different and new. I had the opportunity to work as a volunteer at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery at UW. And shared my experience and learning with the Madison School District.
At the School of Education at UW I was involved in a Student Centered Coaching Course, an AP Biology Course and also attended a Flip Conference 2015 in Michigan State.

I got my bachelors degree in Molecular Biology at the National University of Mexico and my masters degree in Education. I have been married for 33 years to my husband and we have a daughter and a son. Our family is very close and enjoys travelling and spending time together.
Presently I am in charge of an innovative program in education at my school (CUAM). I would like to take advantage of joining the Ted Ed Innovative Program to apply it in Mexico.
CUAM has seven schools in 5 different cities of our country.

In the last two years I have been responsible for the implementation of digital devices in the junior high school classroms. I consider that the most important aspect should not only be its application, but its function and impact. I am also interested in knowing what kind of things are you doing in this respect.

Please let me know how can I start to be part of this effort in Ted Ed Innovative Program.

I lowered my voice. Why? the electricity went out. After cyclone Winston hit Fiji the generators don't always kick in. None of my students left. They knew I would go on and they are here to learn. So the power points on the screen were gone and the lights out. I said, "lean in, I'm going to tell you a story". I teach human resources and I told a story from my work experience. Lights out is an opportunity!

I am teaching at University of the South Pacific in Fiji. I teach distance, online (moodle here), face-to-face and even correspondence! University of the South Pacific, it is supported by 12 Pacific Island Countries- Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. It's challenging, I came from University of North Texas where I taught mostly using Blackboard. Ok, it might sound more than challenging here, but really it's full of opportunity!
We recently had a cyclone shut down campuses but we are recovering. When classes returned the electricity would go out and not one of my students got up to leave, they knew I would just change the medium and class would continue in the dark.
Please consider me for TED-Ed.
