I work with students with disabilities who have social difficulties and benefit greatly from modeling and concrete examples of how one should behave in various situations. I enjoyed your examples of how a good listener should be acting but also allowing them to see the alternative behaviors of how a bad listener acts. Discussion lends to students being able to be reflective on their behavior as well as how it feels when others may not be treating them how they would like to be treated. Thanks so much for the information on this blog!

Would help if teachers didnt overlook the poor kids being bullied and reward the bullies.
Would help if adults didnt bully, I am sure we all know a lot of them in the workplace.
Would help if when you see bullying you step up and step in. Every Time

The first model kids see is the parent. So to raise kind children be kind to them. To raise respectful kids be respectful to them. To raise heroes, show them how to be heroes yourself by feeding the homeless, giving up your seat for someone who really needs it and etc. As a parent, still working on all this myself so my daughter can be all this and more.

Combat bullying right where you are. It starts with you and ends with you.

I see adults bullying others all the time, even here on the internet. Set a good example by practicing fair play, demonstrating acceptance and showing kindness and conducting peaceful resolution. This is how you best teach kids.

Practice what you preach.

As the founder of the 21 Day Kindness Challenge - I completely agree! Let's stop focusing on the negative (bullying behavior) and instead focus on (teach) the positive behaviors (kindness). We have seen this first hand with the schools who participate in the Kindness Challenge program. It has made a profound difference in the lives of everyone who participates. Kindness can change the world!
